the weather that howls in my brain

Forever 21 sailor dress.

I meant to post these photos way earlier, seeing as they were from a picnic Brian and I had on Saturday. Life just got the best of me, so did the weather that day. It was a blazing 90+ and we only managed to stay outside for 20 minutes. We ate our food quickly then took off for the air conditioning.
Anyway, part of the reason I didn't get to post this earlier is because Brian, my parents and I all went to a free Bright Eyes concert on Wednesday. Some of you may recall my trip to NYC last March to see Conor Oberst and crew at Radio City Music Hall. I was delighted to find out I could see them again, FREE, and only an hour and a half away!
Bright Eyes has been my favorite band for 7 years now, and a very big part of my life. Here are some photos of my idol, Conor Oberst himself:

Of course I had to wear a Bright Eyes shirt. The show was absolutely magical!

I hope everyone is having a lovely Friday, I'm probably staying in tonight to recover from a strange stomach bug going around.

vintage dress, Kathy van Zeeland bag, Icing sunglasses, and Restricted Footwear wedges.

Took these photos on one of my favorite tree lined streets in my little city. It was one of those perfectly seasonable days, so I wore a perfectly seasonable dress to match. My boy and I were actually planning on taking pictures somewhere else, but walking back to the car after brunch I couldn't resist.
We spent the day eating at our favorite restaurant, and wandering around Park Ave (Not the Park Ave that you think). After, we ended up at the mall. I know it's tragic but Brian and I are mall rats. We go to all the malls in our area to wander aimlessly and complain. Mostly our complaints start with "kids these days..." I guess we're just an old couple at heart. Another thing is, we don't actually live in the city, we live about 10 minutes away. But, we spend most of our weekend hanging out there and I need to take pictures downtown more often. There are so many beautiful spots.

Anyway, this dress is a recent addition to my closet but it's already one of my favorites. It's so comfortable, not to mention comfortable for my wallet. It was only $2.50. It's a great piece to have for dressing down in the daytime, and dressing up at night. I can already picture myself in some saucy heels, hair down, and a jacket at night.

Well my prison sentence to my bedroom while my boy had his friend over is officially completed. So I'll be heading off to eat my favorite nightcap, Twizzler's Pull and Peel.

Heat Wave

Forever 21 floral mary janes.

It's been too hot for me to wear anything remotely put together. So, since I have no outfit post for you, I thought I'd share my lovely new shoes I talked about a few posts back. I normally don't buy shoes from Forever 21 due to quality issues, but when I saw these I fell in love. Unfortunately, even back in February they were sold out. I am so crazy that I stalked them on ebay until now and won! It also didn't help that most people were selling them for ridiculous amounts of money, way more than they're worth. I scored them for their original retail price $25.
They are surprisingly well made, and honestly one of the only floral pieces in my closet. I can't wait to pair them with unconventional pieces.

1960's dress, vintage clutch, BCBG Generation pumps, and Forever 21 sunglasses.

For my friend's birthday party everyone was told to wear yellow, hence the yellow party. This means I had a chance to break out one of the best pieces in my closet, (not to mention one of my only yellow things). This dress is just too amazing to me. I can't believe I found it lost in the racks at Salvation Army and it ended up being around $5. It's from the early 60's and my mom tells me how she used to wear dresses like this all the time.
To me it sums up the epitome of summer; bright, airy, and simplistically beautiful. We took these photos before heading out to a late dinner and the party. The sun was setting, and there was music in the air due to the festival across the street. It was one of those magical summer evenings.
It's been so hot here the past few days, temperatures reaching 90+. I've been waiting so long for it to get this hot. It makes me want to just sit on my balcony and sip iced tea. You know what I'll be doing on my day off tomorrow.
For now try to stay cool!

Tara Jarmon for Target sundress, Charlotte Russe giraffe print flats, Rue 21 sunglasses, and gifted Gap bag.

These photos were taken on Sunday during the beginning of a scorching heat wave. Let me tell you, there is nothing better to wear on a hot day than a cotton sundress. Something that still looks chic, but something you don't have to think about. We snapped these photos after a very busy day, and when the sun was starting to set we realized we should take the photos we'd been planning.
Once it reaches 85+ there is no way I can wear heels. I wanted to share my new shoes with you during this post, but it was just too hot. I give props to the girls that can pull it off, my feet just swell up. Today it's a breezy 79 so maybe I'll throw my new shoes on and take some photos.
I hope you all are enjoying your Summer, I'm trying to make the most of mine but I've been so busy! Hoping I can fit a swim in soon.

After a busy Saturday afternoon with my boy, we decided to rest and cool off underneath the shade of a big poplar tree. Lounging and talking turned into an impromptu photo shoot and consequent goofiness. Mostly our conversations were about the pizza place we had eaten at earlier. They thought it was weird that the two of us wanted to order a whole pizza and not slices, and were very apprehensive of us with our strange eating habits.
Anyway, my camera really didn't pick up how shockingly vibrant my purple shirt is. When I found it lost in the racks at Goodwill my mother stated: "Now that's purple!" Or something to that effect. I love vibrant 80's colors and I love silk button ups, so this shirt = perfect. Button ups are the perfect shirt to seamlessly fit into any wardrobe. They can be worn with pretty much anything and everything.
One last thing to say before I bid you adieu for now, the bling on my skirt takes it from pretty to AWESOME.

Take care and enjoy the summer weather!

H&M polka dot halter, Charlotte Russe shorts and thrifted vintage mary janes.

Red, white, and blue have always been one of my favorite color combinations to wear. I own four pairs of navy shorts, countless red and white tops, and I won't even start on the dresses. Naturally, I find the first week of July to be the best time to give my red, white and blue tendencies free realm. This year I was so excited I wore the three colors all weekend.
This outfit I wore on our beautiful Independence Day, and it was so fun. This halter is one of my all time favorite shirts, so I love any chance to wear it. Also, I don't think these mary janes have left my feet all weekend. Hands down some of the comfiest shoes I own, and to think they were abandoned to a thrift store for me to find. I believe I got them for $1. It doesn't get better than that.

I hope everyone who celebrates our Independence Day had a wonderful time! I certainly did, with a parade and fireworks!
