I'm finally starting to feel like myself again. Just as I was getting back to blogging I got sick for most of August. It's a recurring health problem I've been struggling with for about a year now. This time I actually saw a doctor (something that I hate doing) and it seems like we've figured it out. I'm mostly mended now.

Because of that, I've been trying to wear everything summer-like in my closet. To make up for missed time of course. On Friday it was over 90 degrees in Rochester! I thought it was the perfect time to wear these 1940's shorts that were hiding in my closet. They're very unique. You put the front part on like an apron and tie it the back. Then you put the back in place and tie it in the front. I don't know if I explained that correctly, but they are kind of like make-your-own-shorts. It seems like I can't help falling for any vintage piece with a novelty. The late 40's and 50's loved novelty. Bird hats, monochromatic outfits, and weird prints. Also, I can't forget to mention the dresses you can change into a romper with a removable skirt. I had one of those gems once but it never fit me right. One day, I'll have one again!

My birthday was the 28th of August and I missed my annual birthday post. This year I spent the day quietly with my family. Then over Labor Day weekend, Brian took me to New York City! We had a wonderful time and took a carriage ride (courtesy of my wonderful parents!).
Speaking of Labor Day, I love to wear white after it. I find this arbitrary fashion rule ridiculous. If you've been here for awhile, you know I think there are no rules!

the transition

With the end of September comes this official changing of seasons. The leaves start to change, the breeze has a chill, and I start slipping into sweaters and jeans. The end of warm weather always makes me a little depressed and more likely to reach for comfy flats instead of heels. I'm trying to break that pattern by investing in some closed toed heels. (All mine seem to be sandals or peep toes!)

I woke up this morning confronted by gray skies and groaned. I just did not want to dress up, so I reached for this cropped sweater that I hadn't worn yet. I got it for free (YES FREE!) with a Kohl's coupon that I get every month, I don't why I just do. I feel like I'm stealing from the store, and yes I promise you this is not a Kohl's promotion. I don't really like the store, but why not get free stuff?

It surprised me that I had to get a large, but the small looked ridiculous. I paired it with my vintage Levi's which are a lot bigger on me than when I last wore them. Gosh darn weight loss. I'm not complaining, that's sarcasm. Looks like I'll have to get a new pair from Salvation Army. Except now, they've all disappeared. There used to be 439583049 of them, that's right 439583049. I guess other girls want to wear mom jeans too. Or maybe they just want to look like a bad-ass from the 80's? That's probably more likely. Heh heh.

I'm off to start my weekend by watching The Adjustment Bureau and eat fistfuls of ring pops.

Keep Calm and Carry On

These photos were taken on Sunday and I meant to post them yesterday but I got into a car accident. I don't know when I'll have my car back but it's a huge bummer. At least I'm alright, something serious could have happened.

Aside from that, I've been busy preparing for the opening of my shop and just have not been in the mood to wear heels. I haven't been into dressing up period this past week. Especially since it's been so hot here. I've been enjoying my super casual looks since I don't usually revel in super casual outfits.

Tomorrow is supposed to be cooler, I'm hoping so can take my crazy new Mary Jane's for a spin. I love hot weather but sometimes I think I'm better suited for 75 and sunny.
